Poverty

He wakes while stars still fade into the gray,
And starts the long and weary road to learn;
The floods took all his family's things away,
Yet in his chest a steady hope doth burn.
The dusty road is long beneath the heat,
His fragile limbs a heavy burden bear;
Pain strikes his tired and trembling, aching feet,
Before he reaches school or gains a chair.
He dreams of days beyond his present sight,
Where every struggle brings a brighter dawn;
He steps through trails to find a guiding light,
And on the path of grit he wanders on.
     To reach the school is just the heavy start,
     Of victory inside a brave young heart.
